Fake Hymens and Purity Balls

Fake Hymens and Purity Dances.

It is amazing the weird products created for women. I find creepy things all the time that I am supposed to use of myself, put in myself and enjoy having done to myself, most sound freaky, uncomfortable and weird…Like eye jewelry and permanent make up tattoos.

I am sure there are some odd products for guys too, however in the male end of things I mainly see adds for penis enlargement and hard on medication…So if you have seen a male product that is just so bizarre you wanna share it here, please do.

However today I want to discuss two things I find very strange in this modern day culture.

This first is this

It is a fucking fake hymen! You insert it and it makes you tighter, when your partner penetrates you it leaks a small amount of fluid that looks like blood. OMG, gross.

I can understand this being used in countries where going to your marriage bed a non-virgin would get you stoned or worse but c’mon. ANY WHERE ELSE THIS IS HORRIBLE. (Well its horrible EVERYWHERE honestly.)

Do we really live in a day and age where being a virgin is important and coveted? I mean really? Guys ask yourself this, do you seriously wanna bed down with a girl who doesn’t know what she is doing, cries, cringes and basically doesn’t want you to touch for the next hour or so cause she is bleeding and sore? Yeah… I didn’t think so. (Not that this ALWAYS happens FYI.)

I mean sure, we all have to be virgins once, and men may not want to marry/boff/kill (thanks 30 rock) slutty girls…. But I have been a virgin and I wouldn’t go back to that for anything and I don’t think my boyfriend would like it either.

I can also see this as being used in some very realistic role playing…. “Please be gentle with me I don’t know what I’m doing.” You know the rest…. Still I can’t help feeling this is a dirty (and not in a fun way) sick item to be able to purchase. If my partner ever asked me to use one they might find themselves single again really soon.

Virginity isn’t bad, in fact not giving it up to the first person who you feel sexy tingles for is probably a good idea, but it also isn’t a special “gift” for a “special” person to unwrap. Women have a dark cloud hanging over themselves because their worth is often times wrapped up in the idea of an intact hymen, this is wrong. What if you were raped? Or you lost it horseback riding, falling on a fence or during gymnastics? Or what if you simply have a healthy active sex life and enjoy your body?

This product, the people that make it and the website are funny, gross and offensive all at the same time.

Now let us talk about this:

Purity Balls/Dances/Rings

In case you don’t know what I am talking about here is the gist. In many conservative and Christian households (many not all and not only) fathers present their daughters with a purity ring (or even nastier a key and lock combo…ewww)…This ring means that the father has control over the daughter’s virginity and in theory the ability to present said ring and daughter to a man who he deems worthy…you know…eventually.

Many times the giving and receiving of this jewelry takes place on a daddy/daughter date or dance where the girls and their father’s dress up like its prom.

While daddy/daughter dates I don’t so much have an issue with as long as dad and daughter are in street clothes and just spending quality time together. I do find these balls to be eerie and disturbing. There are commitment to purity ceremonies and all kinds of ritual like acts to get girls and their fathers to promise to keep the girl’s purity safe.

This is overly sexual for me, it borders on inappropriate. I get not wanting your daughter to go around whoring herself out, I can even understand wanting her to wait until she gets married. I do not understand why you have to dress up, make it a huge deal and sign paperwork.

A father should not really be that into his daughter’s sex life. As a mother I want my daughter to feel comfortable talking to me about sex and boys, but I also don’t want her to feel ashamed and worried because I have made this HUGE deal out of it.

Can you imagine the guilt if the daughter has sex with a boy a few years later, or is raped? What is to stop a father from taking a very dominant over bearing stance now that he is in complete control of his little girl’s virginity?

Tell me, why aren’t boys made to do the same thing? If you want your daughter to sign a pledge to keep her legs together until marriage shouldn’t your sons also pledge to keep it in their pants equally so? Another thing, this is strictly for heterosexual girls…cause you can’t possibly lose your virginity to another woman, right? NOT.

Again this idea over sexualizes the father/daughter relationship. We have long since passed the time when dads owned their daughters until the “right” man came along. I find purity culture just trying to strangle liberal females and place all women back where they were 50 or more years ago.

I have included some pictures… so enjoy, and if I don’t post again until after Christmas have a happy Winter Holiday.

Hey everyone my Christmas Erotica is Free on Kindle today and tomorrow

Despite how amazing they are together in the bedroom, Alexandra realizes she will have to fight to win his love. And she doesn’t want to spend Christmas, much less the rest of her life, with someone who is convinced all they can have together is magic and great sex.

Can Alexandra melt Roland’s icy heart in time for Christmas? Or will she be bound to a man who will always resent her for taking away his freedom

Twisted Science- If you didn't think Nazi's were evil before....

I don’t know if this is in bad taste or not, seeing as Hanukkah just started, but I just felt too strongly to ignore it.

My boy sent me an article that talks about the origins of the statement “women can’t get pregnant from legitimate rape.” A doctor named Stieve, under the Nazi regime, did experiments on executed prisoners (Jews and political “treason” prisoners) trying to show that during times of stress women didn’t ovulate. He did “autopsies” on dead women (some pregnant) and used their tissue, bones and cells for his research. He kept a fucking list! 187 people, eight men and the rest women of reproductive age.

First off let us discuss that the trauma in a concentration camp and the stress/starvation/conditions that those poor people suffered under is NOTHING like rape. I am not saying rape is not traumatic…IT IS! However it is very very different. A woman about to ovulate and then told, "Hey see this gas chamber? You're turn to die!" then saying “ha ha! Gotcha!” is quite a bit different and the science behind it is flawed and unethical.

Now these were things I kind of already knew; Nazi's a are and they did horrid things to people.

I did not know how many doctors at dozens of University’s played into the practice of using political prisoners or people from concentration camps for their weird experiments and “research." In fact in many University’s in Germany, Poland, Austria and Vienna tissue samples and cells from these people are still being used as educational tools. These are victims whose families have no idea what happened to them and never got a proper burial. These are people who did not consent to leaving their bodies to science. These were children and adults, men and women who were considered traitors or sub-human.

I always thought those experiments were done at the camps, I didn’t realize that doctors sometimes came and selected people to either die or do hard labor or go for their twisted “research.” A doctor named Mengele preferred twins. He would stand on a ramp choosing who lived and died and take twins. The twins were treated well (you know considering they were still in a concentration camp) until they were taken away and given injections of diseases, killed just to poke at their bodies, dyes were dripped into their eyes to see if the color could be changed, some had operations done that left them disfigured or paralyzed…these surgeries were often done without anesthetic.

This is not the history they teach us in school and it should be. People need to be aware that the Nazi’s were really bad. I mean I always knew they were villains; Holocaust, gas chambers, Anne Frank, Hitler and his perfect white blonde blue eyed race….You read brief encounters of lamp shades made from human skin and soap made from human remains and scoff it MUST be urban legend. In school they talk about the war and how long it lasted. They don’t show you lists of names and pictures of the people who were basically tortured and killed for NO DAMN REASON. Nazi's and the people who were ok with their practices were plain and simple; EVIL.

There was another doctor named Kreme who conducted experiments on hunger, he personally selected over 10 thousand people for death. Another named Hallervorden bragged he had over 100,000 brain samples all taken from people killed in the T-4 killings (I had to look it up, it was a Nazi program for killing psychiatric patients).

Doctor Heinrich Gross did experiments on children from the infant’s ward of a famous hospital, over 700 kids were killed at the hospital and he is responsible for a lot of them. He was later given awards for his research that were stripped after his death and investigations into his crimes. He didn’t die until 2002!

In the 1980’s so many of these Universities were still using the unethically taken samples people began to revolt. There were protests, rally’s, papers written, all trying to get these University’s to inspect their collects and find samples taken from the Nazi time period and find out who they were, how they died and bury them properly. Only some of the University’s complied and it took over ten years to see ANY progress. The mind set of most were to just ignore it and sweep it under the rug. Who wants to be the person that admits, “Yes many scientific studies and cures are based on samples taken from those slaughtered during Hitler’s rule.”

As of 2005 only 14 of the 31 universities suspected in using prisoners of war bodies in scientific (a term I use loosely) research have actually done full investigations into their collections. So who knows how many Nazi-era victims could have bits of themselves lingering in old basements or perhaps being actively used in education….RIGHT NOW.

Then there is the Pernkopf Atlas a huge medical book, I have actually seen many of the drawings from and that current medical students and healthcare professionals use today. It is one of the best detailed books of the human body. The guy who wrote it was a Nazi, there are Nazi symbols in the original book that have been air brushed out of newer copies and it is believed most of the bodies in the drawings were painted while the guy cut up and examined over 1300 victims of execution chambers in Vienna!

Horrifically most of these doctor (most, not all, some did serve time), saw not one year of prison time, were not persecuted for crimes and until their deaths had a everyone-was-doing-it why-should-we-care attitude. Some of the victims have been figured out and looking at their pictures turn them from numbers in a book to real flesh and blood for me. I feel sad inside and wish there was something I could do. There isn’t. I don’t have a Tardis and I don’t have enough money to make an impact. What I can do is raise awareness.

Don’t put your head in a hole, humans have done serious atrocities since we began on this Earth and Nazi-era Germany is one of them. I hope whatever Gods they believed in took no mercy when deciding their punishments.

I am Thankful Part 4

Thanksgiving is two day away and I still have to get a pie, rolls and egg nog… Yikes! However with this holiday so close this will be my last I am thankful blog. The first thanksgiving is a history lesson basted in conflict. Sure it’s about pilgrims and Native Americans eating together, peace, harmony and all that bull shit. However, can you really look at the story and not remember how badly the pilgrims FUCK the Native Americans afterwards?
For me I simply have to take this iconic American history tale and turn it into a season to remember all that we are thankful for….not that I ever forget…But like Christmas it’s just a time to make sure we realize how blessed we are to have things and people in our lives that make a positive impact. So Happy Thanksgiving to all! Even if you are not in America, there is no reason not to give thanks.

This past seven days I have been thankful for:

My Writing- I feel like I am a good writer. I haven’t been mainstream published yet, but my self-published novels on amazon sell pretty well. If you are interested you can go look them up.

Rose Blossom- is a YA vampire paranormal romance

After Realm - is an urban gothic retelling of the 12 dancing princesses

Princess of Death- is a dark epic fantasy

Servant of Death- is the sequel to Princess of Death (Four Part Series)

Witchy Wonderland- Is a magical erotic a romance…erotica means LOTS OF SEX.
Unchaste Phantasies - a short story collection of erotica.

Pleasant memories of my sisters- My sisters and I don’t always get long or agree, in fact I usually just feel left out of their lives completely, but I do cherish the good memories I have of them.

Modern Medicine - We have so many advances in medicine it really is a great thing….However I was thankful for medicine this week because I have had to world’s worst cold for six days and the only reason I am a functioning person is for the blessing of cold medicine. Now if only they could find a damn cure.

My dad- I have two dads (soon to have a third…father-in-law!) My biodad who is the blood and bones reason I am alive and my step dad….I am thankful for my step dad because he married my mom, taking on three little girls, all who had emotional issues and baggage following the divorce. He has helped me with homework, paid for my food, healthcare, home, clothes etc..etc.. He was there when each of my daughter’s was born, put a new roof on my house and answered all kinds of panic laced calls like, “What should I do if the shower is clogged?” and “the roof is leaking, how do I fix it?”

My grandparents- I have been very blessed in this aspect. I grew up with many grandparents. My real dad’s parents, I didn’t get to spend a lot of time with, but I do have some fond memories of them. My step dad’s parents are still alive and I communicate with them as often as I can. My mom’s mom is alive (though really not doing well) and she was like a second mother to me at times, helping when life was stressful and always being there. My family isn’t big, but the family I have is well loved and I am thankful for them.

Four Day weekends- I don’t feel I need an explanation for this lol

The internet- Again, if you are reading my BLOG I shouldn’t have to explain this.

So have a very happy thanksgiving, eat and be merry…But don’t eat green bean casserole, that shit is evil.

Reclaim the Princess

Reclaiming the Princess
Mulan is NOT a Princess lol
I want to start out with a disclaimer: I am not saying Princess Culture isn’t a bad thing. It totally can be, sexism and equality are ALWAYS things women will struggle with and this is depressing. However I think that treating little girls (or boys) who want to be a Princess with an attitude of negativity is not quite the way to handle things either.

Recently on websites like jezebel and other liberal and feminist sites I see a TON of princess bashing. Negative statements in regards to girls who like princesses and topics that are anti-princess.

Sure when I hear Princess I think, pink, ball gown, crown, prince charming, sparkles…But I also think, fairy tale, strong, independent and powerful, make believe. (Key Word Here)
As a mother it is up to me to explain to my daughters that being a princess is fine as long as the word BEAUTIFUL does not define who and what you are.

Children should be allowed to play with what they want (provided it is not dangerous or inappropriate i.e mom and dad’s sex toys lol) and idolize who they want. As parents it is our job to make sure WE are teaching our children values and morals and not allowing TV and movies to do it for us.

My youngest daughter loves Pocahontas but she also thinks Doctor Who is bad ass.
My eldest daught
er loves Barbie and Sleeping Beauty; she also wants to be like Abby from NCIS. Who am I, or anyone else, to tell her that she can’t like Princesses because they are demoralizing and anti-feminist blah blah blah.

As a feminist myself I take offense to women who say things negative against Disney princesses and other princess paraphernalia. I grew up on Disney and my body issues don’t have anything to do with Snow White’s little waist, they are more about the covers of magazines I used to see in all the stores and being told fat girls are not pretty. I actually enjoyed the times I could lose myself in a fairy tale…because the girls all seemed to have happy endings.

Now I know what you’re saying…They all end up with Prince Charming, doesn’t this reinforce the damsel in distress mentality, that all women need a man?

I guess it can…I mean if the only thing your kid EVER watches/reads/listens to is stories where the princess is rescued and gets married. (Though that’s just love and there is nothing wrong with WANTING to get married and have a family).

As a young girl I also liked She-ra, Rainbow Bright, Mary Poppins and Bedknobs and Broomsticks, at no time did I go:

“Huh I wish I was fighting a war where no one can know who I really am. I wish I could poop colored lights, Man it would be SWEET to have an umbrella that talked back and gee wiz I sure wanna be a Spinster with a mean cat.” (Okay MAYBE that last one.)

Stop taking the princess thing so seriously! They are fairy tales! They are cartoons; they are simply for pleasure and enjoyment. If you really are worried about your daughter thinking she can only be pretty and rescued then introduce some stronger female role models into her life and tell her she can have both. Women can be whoever they want to be, love whoever they want to and do whatever they want to do.

So fight back for the Princess! Take it back, own it! Like in the Vagina Monologues and Reclaiming Cunt, Reclaim Princess, it can be what you want it to be, it doesn’t have to be the image of the pretty stupid girl who is constantly waiting for some man to save her and has to be thin and perky.

She can be a Zombie Princess ( my daughter was one year), Princess of the Dinosaurs, Princess of Bath Time…or better yet she can be QUEEN…Remember, Princesses usually become Queens, and Queens are AWESOME.

The following is a list I created of Disney Princesses and why I think they are a good role modelS. These are my personal opinions BTW. When I mention skills like cooking and cleaning please do not be offended. I think EVERYONE should have these skill sets.

Snow White- survives a night in the woods by being resourceful and using her skills talking to animals to for help, has skills: cooking and cleaning, tames and puts up with seven angry dirty men, has a good kind heart and is friendly.

Sleeping Beauty- is rebellious and does her own thing, even if that is simply dancing and making animal friends, is friendly, is kind, doesn’t want to conform to rules, i.e. freaks when told she has a destiny she HAS to follow, I mean WTF. Wears blue.

Jazmine- outspoken, sarcastic, smart, witty, doesn’t like to obey predestined rules. She is passionate and friendly, loves her father. Like, she runs away and tries to take control of her own life! (Not that we want our kids to run away, but you get the drift.)

Ariel- has hobbies, doesn’t want to conform to society, makes friends easily, enjoys figuring things out for herself, a rebel. (Yes, yes…a girl giving up her voice for a man LAME…But come on she is only like 16! Who doesn’t do stupid stuff at SOME point?)

Cinderella- hard worker, she does what needs to be done…I mean she might not like her living arrangement but she makes the most out of a bad situation, makes friends, is kind even when others are horrible to her. Has a good skill set; cooking, cleaning, laundry, caring for farm animals. (Even I can’t do that.)

Rapunzel- reads, sews, plays chess, climbs, paints, pottery, candle making, cooks, cleans…She does IT ALL. She is educated, interesting and adventurous while still being sweet, selfless, friendly and fierce. (Plus she has gotta be a weight lifter with all that HAIR!)

Tiana - sarcastic, has common sense, has business sense, she is friendly, though a little more abrupt than some of the other princesses and has her feet planted in the ground…No nonsense attitude. (Doesn’t believe in magic at first, even while a FROG is talking to her.)

Merida- active, strong, passionate, a little too rebellious, she can take care of herself, though she really needed to take at least SOME time to brush her hair. She has hobbies, she is athletic, and she is fearless. (Needed to respect her mom a bit more though…)

Pocahontas- strong, she knows her own mind, she loves animals and equality, she can take care of herself and enjoys nature. She is peaceful and loving but knows there is a time to take control; she is a bit wild and rebellious, knows how to row a canoe and swim. (Doesn’t wind up with a Prince or any love interest at the end of the first movie.)

Belle- a reader, quiet, introverted, friendly, kind, good natured, a bit rough around the edges, likes to explore, wants adventure, doesn’t flip her lid at the talking furniture, keeps her word. (Rescues her prince instead of the other way around.)

Sure they all have some issues…but this is just like REAL PEOPLE. They also are not the only fictional Princesses out there, some are even more awesome….Princesses do NOT have to be like Bella from Twilight.

Princess Leia (Star Wars)
Princess Mia (Princess Diaries)
Princess Fiona (Shrek)
Princess Ozma (Oz)
Princess Buttercup (Princess Bride0
Princess Cimorene (Enchanted Forest Chronicles)
Princess Anya (Anastasia)
Princess Odette (The Swan Princess)
Princess Adora ( She-ra)
Xena Warrior Princess

And again if you need some perspective think about this.
If your daughter loved my little ponies would you have the same issues? There are Princesses in that too. It’s all pink and sparkly and very much geared towards little girls. Honestly I would rather watch Little Mermaid than another episode of My Little Ponies…Twilight Sparkle, yuck.

If your son played with GI Joes would you worry that all he thought men were capable of was fighting, battle and other macho habits?

In the end children need to grow up knowing that everyone is equal and we can all do whatever we want with our lives…Whether we idolize Snow White or Jem (did I just date myself?). Whether we are into Monster High or Barbie (My eldest likes both!). Teaching children the difference between play time and real life is a parent’s job…just let them be kids…

Here are some links. Most are doing what I mentioned at the front of my blog. Taking a Stand that this thing called Princess Culture is Horrible.

I Am Thankful Part 3

I am Thankful Part Three

This November I really am trying to think about all the things that makes my life worth living and all the great things I have in my life that cast a positive spin on things.

Here is what I was thankful about the last week:

My Fiancée- he has shown me that family can be loving, welcoming, warm and drama free. He has taught me that I deserve to be loved and am worthy of a soul burning, passionate and comfortable love that I don’t have to worry about. He is a good father and companion, is brilliant, dorky, perfect and best of all, completely mine.

My House- sure it’s old and messy and needs about 1000 repairs and upgrades…but I have brought babies home to that house, I have watched my daughter’s grow in that house. There have been parties, crying friends, laughter, sex, fights and well…my LIFE in that house. I bet each of my friends has a positive and negative story they could tell about my house…Oh and it’s NOT haunted, so that’s a plus.

My Mom- she is one of my best friends, she is always there for me and always laughs at my stupid jokes and ridiculous comments. She is honest (sometimes brutally) and I can depend on her to snap me out of irrational thought processes…I don’t know what I would do without her.

The Weekend- yeah not as emotional as the past three but come on! Can you imagine a world where you never got a day off. On Friday I am always so grateful that I have two days to unwind and breathe.

My Phone- again super shallow, but my phone allows me to communicate with all the people I love and that is important to me…It also allows me to know the count down to the doctor who 50th anniversary special, which is ALSO very important. Lol

My Daughters- they truly are some of the brightest points in my life. My Princess who is moody, kind, quiet, sweet, sarcastic and helpful and my Monster Child who is funny, abrupt, loud, mean and adorable. Being a mother is one of the most amazing aspects of my life.

Magic- I am a witch…Last night I was reading Tarot about the wedding and feeling power course through my veins. I am thankful there is magic in the world, whether you believe in it or not.

What are YOU thankful for this week?
Bright Blessings

I am Thankful Part Two

I am Thankful Part Two

Well the first part went over really well, over 50 views! I guess people do like reading about good news…or I have creepy stalkers…You never know. Lol

I have been pretty stressed, with wedding planning, family drama and work being on super busy over load….It is nice to think about those things that make me happy, grateful to be alive and are just good and pleasant.

Especially after reading about people dying all over from gun shootings and even MORE stupid abortion laws and everyone complaining about Obamacare. GIVE IT UP PEOPLE. Health care for the masses is a GOOD IDEA, give the president a break…sheesh, so the website sucks, it’s getting better…. *sigh*

So here is a list of things I was thankful for this past week and some fun stats and anecdotes to go along with them!

My Job
I work at Healthport.
I process medical records for Intermountain Health Care
I hate working cause I really just want to get a book published mainstream, but it’s not a bad job, just a lot of work and stress.
The money is good.

Duran Duran took their name from a mad scientists in the movie Barbarella.
The first pop video was Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, released in 1975.
The Carpenters signature song, We’ve Only Just Begun, was originally part of a television commercial for a California bank.

Laughter is an instinctive behavior, produced and recognized by people of all cultures.
Laughter strengthens the body’s ability to fight disease.
Laughing 100 times has the same effect on the body as being on a rowing machine for 10 minutes or a stationary bike for 15 minutes.

Good Food
In the last two years dating my boo I have tried Sushi( and liked it), Indian food (and been less than impressed with most of it), Ethiopian food (which was pretty good) and have been to over ten restaurants I had never been to before, trying over a dozen foods I had never had.

Este Pizza, Sugar House Barbeque, Magic Soup (Mi la Cai-Noodle House) Yellow Finn and Wings Nuts are my favorite places to eat right now. If you come to Salt Lake that’s where I recommend you go.

Boo and I also enjoy experimenting with new recipes. He has made me fish chowder, duck, chicken wings from scratch, homemade vinaigrette, chicken pot pies, potato soup, meat less chili, potato bacon pizza, corn fritters and a long list of other stuff. While I have tried my hand (some good, some not) at several greek and german dishes as well as paleo ones, low fat recipes and other dishes.

Good Weather
There is enough energy in one bolt of lightning to power a home for two weeks
It is possible to see a rainbow at night
The winter of 1932 in the US was so cold that Niagara Falls froze completely solid

Boo and I will be married in less than three months

Our wedding is themed literary with Halloween colors; black, green, purple and orange

I am wearing a black lace wedding dress and the flowers are all made of old book pages

We are planning to honey moon in March in San Diego.

Well I hope I made you warm and fuzzy inside. Bright Blessings!

I am Thankful Part One

I am Thankful

I know that it’s a popular facebook trend to write every day what we are thankful for. But what if we took it a little further? I have decided for November once a week to show case the things I am thankful for with a little history behind them.
This week I have been thankful for
-My car
-My friends
-My cats
-My Books

I am NOT thankful for a country where women are still treated as second class citizen and abortion is still a topic of debate. I am NOT thankful that I feel helpless because aside from this blog and the occasional donation there is not much I can do.

I have read so many disturbing articles of late that make me sad and angry, school shootings, mall shootings, women who spend thousands of dollars trying to get out of state for abortions, stupid laws made by simple minded ass hole conservatives…. That this November I needed to take a deep breath and a break. I am planning a wedding and it is stressful. My sister is pregnant and it is stressful, money is stressful… everything seems bleaker than normal in the world of politics.

So here are some fun facts to take our mind off of all this anger and darkness swamping the land.

People had to sit still for eight hours for the first pictures to be taken
The cigarette lighter was created before the match
It takes six months to build a rolls Royce and 13 hours to build a Toyota

Snoring occurs only when someone is in non REM-sleep
Most of what we know about sleep we've learned in the past 25 years
In insomnia following bereavement, sleeping pills can disrupt grieving.

The average person reads less than one book a year (NOT ME)
People who spend time mostly reading become more sociable than those who do not.

A group of cats is called a “clowder”
Cats make about 100 different sounds. Dogs make only about 10
Many Egyptians worshipped the goddess Bast, who had a woman’s body and a cat’s head

My Car
Is named Mels after Melody Amy’s best friend in Dr Who since when she becomes River Song she uses psychedelic red lipstick
Is a Red 2007 Toytoa Rav 4
I only have her because my BFF wrecked my other car. LOL

My Friends
Between my close friends and I we have a total of thirteen children.
All of my BFF’s have either had a child out of wedlock or have been divorced at least once, except the lesbian…go figure.
Out of all of my very close friends only two of them are Christians

Bright Blessings!

Sexist Search Engines

So the United Nations Women Campaign has a new add. Where they take a women’s face and leave her mouth as a search engine box and duplicate the horrible things that come from real searches.
Try it on Google, try it on Bing. I guarantee you find awfulness. I did it myself and was shocked at the gender inequality that is found in something so mundane.

Do it yourself and post the results YOU find in the comments.

When running this search the top six were:

Women Need To
-know their place
-know about men
-stop hating
- be forked
- feel desired
When I searched Women Cannot the tops answers were
- Be priests
- Vote
- Be trusted
- Have it all
- Speak in church
- Sleep
How about searching Women Shouldn’t, also pretty awful
- Fight in combat
- Have rights
- Whistle
- Play sports
- Wear pant
- vote
When running this about men it was an interesting/scary comparison.
Men need to
-feel desired
-be loved
- feel needed
- learn to talk
- grow up
- chase

Men cannot:
- Be left alone
- Get hard
- Build muscle after 35
- Multitask
- Live on bread alone
- Be faithful
Men Shouldn’t
-hit women
- get married
- pay more for car insurance
- wear women’s clothes
- eat soy

Back Dated Friday Five!

I really do love this Friday Five thing, but with love, work, kids, and life sometimes I don’t get to do it on Friday. So here is the last three weeks!

1. When (and why) did you last intentionally throw food onto the floor or ground? With my kids at the park, we were feeding geese

2. To whom did you last throw a canned or bottled beverage? Ummm…I actually have no idea. I threw a milk bottle at my ex-husband about three years ago lol

3. When did you last throw a ball? I threw a piece of paper wadded up into a ball for my cat a few days ago. He likes to play fetch

4. When someone throws you a set of keys, how confident are you while those keys are in midair that you will catch them and be cool doing it? half and half. Sometimes I am like Geena Davis in ALOTO and sometimes I am like eeek those will hurt!

5. What’s something you regret throwing away? I don’t really regret throwing anything away. If it has been thrown away there is a good reason for it.

6. What was the last t-shirt you acquired because it identified you as a member of a specific group? (you know, like a faculty t-shirt if you’re a teacher, or a class t-shirt if you’re a student, or a volunteer t-shirt for some event you helped with…) I bought a Dr. Who t shirt which ID’s me as a whovian lol…I bought a shirt that had the Discover Card logo on it so I could “dress” down at work about four years ago.

7. What was the last event for which you filled out a HELLO MY NAME IS nametag? I have no idea, probably a party and probably for fun

8. Besides websites and personal computers, how many things do you have passwords or combinations for in order to prove you’re authorized? I have a key card to enter certain places at my work…. I used to have an entry code for my daughter’s day care.

9. What was the last thing you wrote your name on so that people would know it belonged to you? My training manual at work

10. What was the last thing you put your name on so people would know you supported a cause, or were a member of a side? My friggin blog and about half dozen petitions. One of my BFF’s held the Rally to Improve Birth this year and I signed my name to that

11. How would you describe your skin? Peaches n cream, fairly soft, covered in freckles

12. As a teenager, what was your acne like? Not horrible…I have decent skin

13. When did you last escape something by the skin of your teeth? I have no idea

14. What most recently gave you goose bumps? My fiancée, and in a good way ;)

15. When did you last burn yourself? Oh about a month ago and cooking.

GoodReads a Dictatorship

Oh Dear Lord Good Reads….

Now when I go check the novels I have written I see this super intrusive site comment

Hey, you have some reviews! That’s great news. Goodreads reviews help readers decide to read your book. Read more about reviews.

Looking to get more reviews? Try a free giveaway.
For more suggestions of great ways to use Goodreads, please see our author guidelines.
For more about how our reviews work, please see our review guidelines.

If you see a review you feel violates our guidelines, please flag it to bring it to our attention. You’ll see a flag icon when you mouse over the bottom right-hand side of a review.

And I have been informed per their new guidelines that even a simple THANKS FOR READING can be flagged and considered spam.

You can no longer shelve and author or write a review because the author behaved badly or acted like an ass, goodreads took down numerous reviews and shelves without even notifying users and the upheaval on this site and so many of my friends blogs isabso fucking lutely ridiculous.
Goodreads is a site for readers…Sure as an author I love to put my books on there and ask people to read and review… I do NOT talk back or argue with people who do not like my novels, that is their personal opinion and honestly a bad review can boost book sales just like a good review can...People always want to know if the book is as bad or good as the review says it is. Primarily, though, goodreads is for people who read and love to share their opinion.

This type of censorship is utter bullshit and shows Goodreads comforming to the peer pressure from sites like Stop the Goodreads Bullies, who honestly are just angry authors and trolly commenters who got their shit handed right back to them. I am friends with most of the people they complain about and can honestly say they are all educated, interesting and nice people.

I was worried when Goodreads was bought by amazon.com this kind of shit would happen. Are they now going to tell me I cannot swear in my reviews like amazon.com does as well?

This is a social networking site, like facebook, as long as it does not cross guidelines like personal harassment (i.e stalking, publishing real life facts like addresses and death threats etc..) or delve into things that are illegal (i.e. child pornography) it should not matter if you have a shelf like:author-is-a-jerk or refuse to read a book because the author is anti LBGT rights and add that to your review.

I will not leave the site because honestly I do not have the time to re do my profile and my book lists somewhere else, but I have a lot of friends who are and I am going to miss them. If enough of them leave I will have no choice but to follow, what is the point of using goodreads if it turns into a cemetery where the only inhabitants are trolls, sock puppets accounts, bitchy authors and users who simply do not care about what happens on it?

The amount of outcry on the new goodreads policies should be enough to show the company what a bad move they made upsetting a good majority of their users.
As an author and a reviewer I cannot tell you how ashamed I am for goodreads that they have decided to censor a site that I have spent years enjoying.

For Shame Goodreads.

Best of luck to all my fellow bloggers and authors.

Some Friday Five!

Alright so here is the past three Friday 5. I know I am behind, but I do love doing these little things.
Hosted by http://f.riday5.com/

Topically Unrelated

1. What’s something you think you could have been good at, if you’d started at a young age? Dancing
2. What TV show’s theme song do you really like? MASH, have you ever HEARD the real lyrics?
3. What’s the dumbest dare you ever took, or what’s the dumbest dare you witnessed someone taking? I once watched my sister’s friend lick a toilet seat, that was pretty nasty. The dumbest dare I ever took? Who knows, flashing someone probably, played a TON of truth or dare during high school.
4. What’s the most exotic thing you’ve eaten? Soft Shell Crab and probably some other Asian or Indian food… OH Book took me for Ethiopian food once!
5. What was the last thing you changed the batteries for? my camera

Ill Fits

1. What item in your wardrobe do you wish was better-fitting? My wedding dress, I know, stupid, but I need to lose like ten pounds to LOVE it.
2. What role in a play, musical, or television program would be a terrible fit for you but is still something you wish you could try? Christine from Phantom, I can sing most of her part but some of the notes are too high and I am too plus size to play a skinny, starving dancer.
3. Which furnishing in your home clashes most with the others, for whatever reason? All of them, my house is pretty mismatched.
4. What item in your possession are you using for something other than its intended purpose? Uh….. I use a dining room table in my garage as a shelf for things I would rather my outside cats didn’t try and pee on.
5. What’s something others expect of you that you are just not comfortable with? To keep my house super clean, it’s not dirty, but it is usually messy, I am just not that girl who scrubs and organizes and keeps everything spic and span

Film Flam

1. In The Spectacular Now, the main character is good at making everybody laugh. What social skill do you bring to a large party? I think I am the one who makes everyone laugh and feel welcome and part of something
2. In The Way Way Back, one character was supposedly there when, at the local water park, one person passed another on the huge water slide. What amazing or strange feat that everyone supposedly knows about did someone pull off in your area (or at your school)? I have no idea what this is asking…
3. In Austenland, the main character spends a week in a large Victorian-era house designed for fans of Jane Austen. In what book’s setting would you love to spend a week immersed? Setting? The friggin Tardis….or Dracula’s castle…I mean not forever, but like a weekend
4. In The Heat, two main characters at first have great difficulty getting along personally, but they work unusually well together professionally. With whom have you had huge personal differences while still doing excellent work? Uh…. No idea, I do a lot of work alone
5. In We’re the Millers, a marijuana-dealer and a reluctant stripper pose as husband and wife in order to complete a job. If you had to do the same for an undetermined length of time, who could pose as your Platonic life partner? Well I don’t want a platonic life partner, I want my boo…But I guess my one of my geeky, spart and opinionated gay friends

Harry Potter is Why My Child Summons the Dark Prince....NOT

Does your child read Harry Potter?

At night do they sometimes levitate from their beds? Or during the day do you find yourself giving into your child when you shouldn’t?
Well it is because Harry Potter is the DEVIL! And the spells in Harry Potter come from REAL witchcraft books!

Actually I am serious…. Wait…no…I am being a sarcastic bitch and making fun of three teenage exorcists and a HUGE Christian community that seriously believe reading Harry Potter is the gateway to Satanism.

Three girls, ages ranging from 18 to 21, sisters from Arizona Man that place is a cesspool claim to have been performing exorcisms since high school under supervision of their father who also claims to have performed exorcisms.
These girls have travelled to London to stop a major Satanism spree that all began with kids reading the Harry Potter books. They state that the spells in Harry Potter are real witchcraft and that even though Harry uses the magic for good; all magic comes from Satan so it is preaching evil.

”inviting Satan to possess them by reciting the spells in the Harry Potter books."

Since the Harry Potter novels were released there have been tons of people in churches telling their congregations not to read these novels. I had thought this kind of crap had died off in the last five to ten years, I mean Harry Potter just celebrated his 15th anniversary for goodness sakes.

I have read ALL the Harry Potter books and let me tell you from a Witch’s point of view there is NO real magic in these books. Did the author do her research on stones and herbs etc…etc…? Sure, but the incantations, they are MADE UP….I mean I WISH they were not, how cool would it be to fix your glasses with a wave of your wand, ride a broom or change your hair color without a trip to the salon? I mean man I wish I had half of Mrs. Weasley’s household spells alone!

People who buy into the whole Harry Potter is evil obviously haven’t read the books and obviously have no idea what they are talking about. I used to be a HUGE Marauders Era RPGer and Potter fanatic, though of late my fandom has changed to Doctor Who. This is simply a fun magically story about a little boy who grows up too fast, learns hard life lessons, makes friends, fights evil, goes to school and uses magic while he is doing all of it.

Last time I check J.K Rowling wasn’t even pagan. Oh and just so you know… REAL witches are not Christian, they do not believe in Satan, Satan is a Christian concept. Hard to invoke the devil when you don’t believe he exists, but that’s a religious tolerance rant for another day.

I honestly find girls like these and people who talk about Harry Potter like it is this horrible magical entrance to hell, full of shit and mainly looking for money, publicity, infamy and their time in the spot light. What a show they put on, almost makes you want to buy tickets to the ridiculousness.

Throughout the years many books and been linked with evil, magic and the devil, most, if not all, do not. It is just in the imaginations of overzealous religious fanatics. Which makes you wonder? Why do really religious people always have the devil and sex on their minds?

Want examples of other books that have been banned or challenged because of magic and witch craft?

Bony-Legs by Joanna Cole-
This is a children’s book, it is 48 pages long.
When a terrible witch vows to eat her for supper, a little girl escapes with the help of a mirror and comb given to her by the witch's cat and dog.

The Wizard of Oz- Frank L Baum

A Wrinkle in Time- Madeleine L'Engle

The Witches Roald Dahl

Bridge to Terabithia Katherine Paterson

My nine year old has read three (and the first four Harry Potter) of these and I haven’t found her summoning the dark prince, or spitting up pea soup. When will humans stop looking for hidden meanings and evil in everything and just enjoy books for the brilliant content and escape they provide?

Shame on you teen girl exorcists, stop worrying about the devil and go live normal lives.

Re-Homing Awareness

Today I have come across something that it so disgusting that I just had to post it and bring awareness.

Now with “decent” people re-homing is simply finding a new home for your pet when you can no longer take care of them and don’t want to leave them at a shelter.
You can look at legitimate re-homing here:

A trend with children has recently been brought to light through investigative reporting.

People are adopting children from other countries and when they realize the match is not good or they cannot handle the child they are simply giving them away to other families. These parents have the new families sign notarized guardianship papers and just hand over their children. You can simply place and add in a re-homing group or forum and BAM place your adopted child in a new home.

Now maybe at this point you still are not quite as horrified. Well here it comes. The new families these children are being re-homed in are awful. They are abusive, dirty, low income, and the adults are usually mentally instable, mean, and in some cases have had their biological children taken from them. Sometimes these new families have other children in their care who have also been re-homed (you know like a dog). It is no wonder Russia has currently banned the USA from adopting their children.
If you can stomach it here are some articles about children who have been re-homed. I gotta say the punishments are sorely lacking for adults who do this to children they adopt.

What kind of asshole goes through all the trouble to adopt a child then abandons him or her to people they know NOTHING about, or honestly AT ALL.? Adoption is serious and before you adopt a child you need to really think about it. Wanting a child is not enough, you need to consider that the child might have physical and mental health issues you and your family will have to deal with. They are a human being not a cat.

Look, I can understand having issues with an adopted child. However there are so many options and services geared towards helping people who have adopted children. This includes the ability to abandon those children to social services and place them back up for adoption if need be. I can see where it might be hard to love a child who is difficult and integrate a child older than say three or four into your life. However, THIS is what you sign up for as an adoptive parent. Try therapy first! Ask other parents of adoptive kids for advice, join a support group, if you are religious talk to your priest/bishop/pastor…etc..etc… Do not just take your child on a two hour car ride, drop him or her off with strangers and wipe your hands off in good riddance.

I live in Utah…Here are some adoption support sites:

A Poem: Always in the Red

Because today my depression is getting the better of me and everything seems to be piling up on top of me, not enough money, not enough time...I bet some of you also know how it feels to be beaten down by life.
Bright Blessings to you and yours.

Always working, always worrying;

Stress, fear, anxiety, my bed fellows.

Always in the red and the not the green;

Trying to find my place, struggling to make a life.

Accidental screw ups, feeling stupid;

Sadness and pressure lurking around each corner.

Not enough time to do all the things I want/wish/must/have to;

I don’t get to participate in:

Big things, like first days of school;

My parents visiting;

Venue stalking.

Always feeling overwhelmed and tired;

Happiness is there, but mostly fleeting.

Love and passion embrace me, but all too often are stamped out.

Fighting to get a head, falling on my face;

Death seems like such a permanent answer, too permanent.

Stomach tightening, throat burning, eyes filling.

I am not involved in:

Little things, like field trips;

Karaoke night;

Doctor’s appointments.

Continuously ,of late lost and lonely;

Darkness, all-consuming with pin pricks of light.

I just want to be able to breathe;

To not feel like every day is frustrating, like the Gods are punishing me.

I need to have peace…I need to have the time to;

Be a better mother

Be a better friend

Be a better daughter

Plan the perfect wedding…

Not constantly wishing for the….end….of continually being in the red.

Breast Feeding Awareness Week

The past week was World Breast Feeding Week. So while I am a few days late I want to talk about this.

Let me start out with this I Support You! II support any way you choose to feed your child, as long as you are feeding it! Lol breast is not always best for some moms and for others it is. As long as your children are happy and healthy that is what really matters.

I Support You, and your RIGHT to breast feed your child anywhere and not feel shamed into covering up. People over sexualize breasts and that’s why they are uncomfortable. People see breasts as a sex organ so when I woman whips it out in public they go OMG NO!! She is INDECENT! This is bull shit of the highest nature. Breasts were created to feed your child; the added bonus is the sex thing. LMAO

We don’t make men cover up their chests in public. So if you want to cover up fine, if not then don’t. Have you seen that commercial? It starts: “First Child” and the mom is in a restaurant hiding her feeding baby under a blanket and then it changes to the same woman: ”second child” she is ordering food while feeding and tells the waiter “eyes up here” while her surly two year old glares? I can’t remember the product but I love that commercial.

I could not breast feed my first daughter. My milk never came in and I was pretty depressed by it. I also have small nipples so I had to wear a nipple shield and she had issues latching on. I gave birth at the U of U and felt very pressured to breast feed. They wouldn’t give me formula until I begged for it because my baby girl was hungry and I couldn’t feed her. My Princess is healthy and happy and was formula fed. I didn’t have issues weaning her from the bottle and her current teeth issues are thumb sucking ones, not bottle ones.

With my second daughter I was going to pump, which was a pain in the butt. I made the choice not to breast feed because 1) I am a working mother 2) I didn’t feel it was right for us and 3) At the time, and now, I have nipple piercings I really like and taking them in and out was annoying. She is like my first daughter, happy and healthy and was bottle formula fed, with no issues. I went to Salt Lake Regional and was upfront with my intentions to formula feed, the staff there was really nice and gave me formula, no one tried to push a lactation nurse on me and respected my choices.

If you haven’t noticed that is a running theme here…YOUR CHOICE. So women (and men) be supportive of each other.

Here are some interesting breast feeding/ baby formula stats and facts. As always I love to hear your own stories.

• Recent studies show that babies who are exclusively breastfed for 6 months are less likely to develop ear infections, diarrhea, and respiratory illnesses. They may also be less likely to develop childhood obesity.

• Breastfeeding reduces the risk of breast and ovarian cancers.

• Breast feeding costs less than formula!

• Formula, a lot of times, gives the babies more of their required nutritional needs than breast feeding.

• Formula fed infants sometimes stay full longer

• Feeding with formula is a faster more convenient option for many moms.
